Rent a Starlink Mini in Granada
The Alhambra has WiFi. The Sierra Nevada, Alpujarras, and Tabernas Desert behind it don't.
From €29/day · 100-200 Mbps · No Starlink account needed
Granada is the gateway to the Sierra Nevada — Spain's highest mountain range — and the Alpujarras valley, a network of white villages clinging to mountain slopes with ancient irrigation channels and very little mobile signal. East toward Almería, the Tabernas Desert is Europe's only true desert and equally disconnected.
Where your phone stops working near Granada
Sierra Nevada above 2,000m (ski station has signal, backcountry does not), Alpujarras valley (villages like Capileira and Trevélez have weak to no signal between them), Tabernas Desert (Europe's only desert — vast and empty), Sierra de Huétor.
Road trips from Granada
Granada → Alpujarras valley
1.5 hours south. White villages, terraced hillsides, and the high Alpujarras — signal drops between every village.
Granada → Tabernas Desert
1.5 hours east. Spaghetti western landscape — flat, empty, zero coverage.
Granada → Sierra Nevada high passes
45 minutes south. Pico Veleta road reaches 3,398m — signal long gone by then.
Local tip
The Alpujarras is one of Europe's best-kept secrets for hikers and van lifers — stunning mountain scenery, hot springs, and almost no tourists. But also almost no signal. A Starlink makes it a viable remote work destination.
I'm a travel photographer based in Valencia. I need to upload 20GB shoots from locations with zero signal. SkyRelay changed my workflow completely — I uploaded a full wedding shoot from a cliff near Jávea.
